Selank is a synthetic peptide made up of seven amino acids. Its sequence extends the naturally occurring peptide tuftsin with three additional amino acids, and it is studied for its effects on nervous-system signaling.
Studies in rat brain tissue have reported changes in the expression of genes involved in neurotransmission after Selank exposure. Some findings suggest modulation of the gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) signaling system, which helps regulate nerve-cell activity. Its full mechanism of action remains under investigation.
