Peptide
MOTS-C
Product information
MOTS-C is a peptide made up of 16 amino acids, encoded within the mitochondrial genome. It is studied as a signal linking mitochondria to the regulation of cellular metabolism.
Experiments in cells and mice have linked MOTS-C to changes in folate and purine metabolism that activate AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK), an enzyme involved in sensing cellular energy availability. Research uses these pathways to investigate how cells respond to metabolic stress; the findings do not establish a clinical effect in people.
